wish it's always as sweet

after 5 years of being my home, i have this one wish, one special wish for Jakarta ~ wish it's always as sweet.

however, it's quite unfortunate that i have to start this blog at a time like this.

a time when a group of some 30 stupid guys calling themselves "Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat" or People's Democratic Fort were up in arms (arms are sharpened bamboo sticks) on the street in Jalan Diponegoro, Menteng wanting to 'ganyang' or crush Malaysia and 'sweep' all Malaysians living in Jakarta.

reason for such a ridiculous act? well, being stupid guys, jobless, with no future and living on people's throw-aways, they need no reason to undertake such act as stopping all cars that passed by and demanding everybody to show them their identification papers.

those bastards were taking the law into their own hands and mind you... their hands were full of shit and blood of sins from their past backgrounds. just can't imagine what would happen if one unfortunate Malaysian happened to pass by Jalan Diponegoro that afternoon...

their act received wide media coverage complete with pix of those thugs holding the sharpened bamboo stick, arms and heads in bands blocking the road and stopping cars. in the background a banner was put up with words "maaf perjalanan anda terganggu... sweeping rakyat Malaysia".

and, know what? one stupid police officer later came up with a statement trying to deny the fact that those thugs were rally aiming to catch, apprehend and use the sharp bamboo sticks on any Malaysian citizen.

These were what they said as reported by detikcom online news website;

Detik-090909
"Dalam jumpa pers Rabu 9 September di kantor Bendera, polisi menyangkal membiarkan aksi sweeping Bendera. "Sebetulnya yang dilakukan bukan sweeping, tapi upaya menanamkan jiwa nasionalisme membagikan bendera ke pengguna jalan," kata Humas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Chrysnanda Dwi Laksana.

Detik-090909-

My gosh! What were they trying to hide?
Still they wanted to defend such a terror act.

It's true that the act involved only a few of the 230 million Indonesians.

But, the fear that those thugs managed to cause among peace-loving Malaysians living and working in Jakarta with young kids going to school in this city, and among Malaysian students at local universities here... was so great.

No blind-fold statement will ever be able to justify the act of those thugs. Not even that which came out from the mouths of trying-to-be-clever police officer or a respected statesman.

The double standard practised was so obvious in this case.

As an example, when an unfortunate Indonesian maid was tortured by her Malaysian Chinese employer in KL, the whole of the Indonesian media shouted out loud for days and sometime weeks, demanding that the Malaysian Government apologise to all Indonesians. An apology from the government when the wrong was done by just one Malaysian?

So now, wouldn't it be fair and square for Malaysians to equally demand that the Indonesian government too apologise to all Malaysians for the criminal act of those stupid bastard... not just one bastard but 30 over bastards?

Well, am glad to note that Malaysians are much wiser. Malaysians didn't demand the Indonesian government to go down on its knees to apologise for the misdeed of individuals. Malaysians are able to see clearly that acts of individuals should not be blamed on the government.

Several Indonesian friends called me up following the incident, asking if everything is okay wth my family and I. They too were worried that the act of 'sweeping' by those thugs could go out of control when the police who're supposed to guarantee the safety of all has instead tried to defend those thugs.

Lucky it's just one police officer who made that statement. Lucky there're still millions of Indonesians who didn't share the misplaced nationalism of those bastards.

Really, i hate to write about this sweeping incident as i always wish that memories of my stay in Jakarta is nothing but sweet.
